This small city, situated on a steep, dramatic horseshoe bend of the Vlatava river is spectacularly scenic -- no two ways about it. The town dates back to the 1300's and the castle and other major buildings are in Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles.
On the other hand, there is a heavy tourism presence, so don't expect quiet reflective moments on quiet streets, parks, or alleyways. Of the places I visited in the Czech Republic, only in Prague did I see and feel a heavier tourism presence than what I experienced at Český Krumlov.
